Our Mission.

The mission of the New Second Chance Peer Support Specialist Training Curriculum is to empower those individuals that are actively seeking to become a North Carolina Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist (NCCPSS).

What is a Peer Support Specialist?

A CPSS is a trained professional providing individualized recovery focused services. We offer hope, support, and advocacy to others through sharing our own experiences of living in recovery with mental illness and/or substance use disorders.

Who can become a Peer Support Specialist?

Almost anyone can become a Peer Support Specialist. Requirements are a High School Diploma or GED, Lived Experience, Self-Motivated and the ability to work well independently or in groups, while exercising good judgement.

Where does a Certified Peer Support Specialist work?

1-on-1 in the Community, Independently, Approved Agencies, Community Outreach Organizations, Mental Health Centers, Jails, Substance use facilities, Homeless Outreach Collaboratives, Hospitals, Clinics, Various Nonprofits, & Charitable Organizations...and more.

The New Second Chance peer training meets the North Carolina Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services requirements. The training course prepares participants for immediate employment opportunities as a North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist. The training course is focused on real life experiences, evidence-based studies, personal wellness, and an uncompromising NCCPSS Code of Ethics guidelines.
